1. February to August: Dry season:

Obviously, the dry season is ideal for travelers to explore Hoi An thanks to the comfortable average temperature of 33°C and the low rainfall. From February to April, the gentle sunshine and warm weather are favorable for wandering around every corner of the ancient town, joining cycling tours, or visiting vegetable or craft villages. February is also the festival time with the biggest traditional festival in the year - Tet or Vietnamese Lunar New Year.

From May to August, the temperature increases remarkably and can reach 38°C in July and August. The sunshine during this time is harsh and the humidity also rises. If you are a beach lover, May and June are the best months for swimming, sunbathing, island hopping tours, scuba diving, and other water activities.

2. September to January: Wet season:

The wet season from September to January is also the low tourist season in Hoi An. That may be a bit inconvenient for outdoor activities but brings a more peaceful and less touristic ambiance to the town. Especially from late September to early October, you may have a chance to experience the Mid-autumn Festival - one of the most traditional festivals in Vietnam with lots of lanterns lit up all over the alleys. The rainfall starts to rise in September and hits highest in October and November. Although there might be a tropical monsoon or storm resulting in floods in some places, it is not all the month and travelers may take advantage of the low hotel rate at this time. Travelers need to check the weather forecast carefully to have a backup plan during these months.

December to January are the two coldest months in Hoi An with the temperature from 19 to 25°C. The average rainy days decrease to 13 - 18 days per month compared with 20 - 21 days in 2 previous months. The number of tourists still remains low due to the wet weather but increases during Christmas and New Year. A jacket and maybe a light raincoat are necessary for this time. You also should expect a higher rate or holiday surcharge for Christmas and New Year.

3. Conclusions:

In conclusion, each time features distinct weather characteristics but is suitable for different travel purposes. If you prefer the mild weather for exploration, February to April would be the best time. If you prefer a beach vacation with comfortable sunshine and blue sky, May to June should not be ignored. If you prefer festivals, head to Hoi An in February, September, and December. If you want to save travel costs, check the weather forecast and come in October or November. Hoi An is beautiful in different ways all year round and definitely grants you a memorable experience no matter when. The choice is yours.
