Dry and hot season

Influenced by the hot wind flow from Laos, Hue is remarkably hotter than adjacent areas with the average yearly temperature at 25.6°C. The highest temperature can reach 40°C, usually in May or June. These are also the driest months with an average rainy day of 10.5 and 8.8 days per month respectively.

Despite the scorching heat, Hue offers a satisfying blue sky with bright sunshine, low humidity, and some cool sea breeze, making the hot season ideal for photo-hunters and sun-kissed beach vacations. September is the end of the hot season with a more pleasant temperature (24.6 - 30.9°C on average) but the frequency of raindrops slightly increases to 13.3 rainy days per month.

Wet and cold season

From October, the precipitation rises quickly and reaches its peak in November with 341.9mm and 19.5 rainy days per month. Storms may come during the wet season in October and November as well. The drizzles lasted a bit longer in the day, making the sky cloudy and gloomy most of the time.

The average temperature goes down to around 20 - 22°C during the cold season from October to March next year. The coldest month is January with an average low temperature of 19°C but you may experience extreme coldness of 10°C some days. April is the transition time with low rainfall, more sunshine, and pleasantly cool weather, perfect for outdoor activities.

Best time to visit Hue

For the most favorable weather conditions, February to April is the best time to visit Hue. As the cold season almost ends and the hot season nearly comes, the heat slightly rises so you will enjoy the pleasant temperature with minimal rainfall. The clear blue sky and gentle sunshine are ideal for exploring the city's vibrant nature and unwinding at the serene beach.

For sun-seekers and beach lovers, head to Hue from May to August. Immerse in the turquoise water of Lang Co or Thuan An Beach or hop on a sampan boat along the Perfume River and soak up the stunning sunsets on Truong Tien Bridge. The dry weather with low humidity is also suitable for exploring the city's long history with signature spots namely Thien Mu Pagoda, the glorious Hue Citadel, or the massive Kings’ tombs in the Nguyen Dynasty dating back to the 19th century. Since July and August are peak times for domestic travelers, those who want to avoid crowds and seek more privacy can consider May and June for a better experience.

If you prefer much cooler weather, October to January can be considerable. However, check the weather forecast in October and November to avoid storms and be prepared for frequent rains.
